Review of Strike Witches: Neko Witches in Propeller Legs

Strike Witches is a action comedy ecchi show, if the picture didn't make it apparent. The show takes place during WW2 but instead of people it is aliens which invaded in 1939. The only thing that can even fight these aliens called Neuroi (which are essentially modern aircraft with lasers) are witches which sprout animal ears and a tale when they use magic. They also fly around in propeller legs called strikers which is how the show gets the name Strike Witches, or more precisely how the 501st Joint Forces got its name which correlates to the shows name. Overall it is rediculous especially with the fanservice considering that no women in this universe wears a skirt.

The show starts off a bit slow and cliche with Miyafugi being a pacifist and not wanting to fight but then essentially realizing that the Neuroi aren't human she becomes a bit better at killing but actually only kills two Neuroi that I remember, the cube Neuroi swarm and the military robot that fuzes with a battle ship. So the show never really turns her into a killing machine and she keeps her Morales throughout, she isn't the weakest of characters and that seems to be true for most of the cast which only really has 4 people that do anything amazing being blonde chick, brunette chick, red haired chick, and major Sakamote. Thats right there is a problem with the show, names are pretty much impossible to remember as there are 11 girls  in the cast and some of them barely get screen time or just weren't important enough to remember their name. I know the red haired chick was the commander and if I really think about I remembered her name was Minna but only because that happens to be the name of one of my favorite characters in anime. The show is made up of pairs it seems except for Perine who seems to be a loner. For instance the loli and the big breasted Shirley which I only remember because her English voice actor is the same as Panty from Panty and Stocking. So the characters all together are hard to remember but fun, they all have good designs and feel nice in the show. Hopefully the second season fleshes them out more. But here is the list of characters

Some of the characters have nicknames however such as Charlotte who goes by Shirley. 

As you can see it is a large cast, the character development of these characters is what the show focuses on so  you better get used to them. They all have their quirks and generally have good character designs. They  are all some sort of trope character and slightly stereotypical so the show starts to become Hetalia but with panties shots and fighting aliens.

The soundtrack is sub par usually just keeping the show, not contributing in any way, The ending was upbeat which i liked and i often times didn't skip it due to the visuals, and that is what this show really has going for it, nice visuals and cute characters. It is nice to look at and nice to see the characters living out their lives, this show was pretty much slice of life with an alien race thrown in for them to fight with a new tactic of some kind. It is enjoyable and i enjoyed it enough that i bought the box set the day i finished it. I recommend people watch this show, if they can stand a lot of panty shots they will find a cute show that has nice characters.

The Beginning of a Journey

Now where this really begins, though i do love that picture of Yin from Black Bullet enough that i put it as the blogs background. This blog is going to be a place which i express feelings which I would like to get out there to people, i was noticing that my comment postings on YouTube were usually a literal paragraph and decided that if i am to have a long comment on a video i will post it here. If i have something that i have been thinking about i will post it here. Know that this is not a place that i am dumping thoughts as i already have a 30 page long Google doc where i dump my thoughts and such on a semi regular basis but that is private and is more close to a diary. This however is going to be a place which i am talking about things which i want to get out there, on a side note it is damn cold right now as my furnace is being repaired and the temperature in this room just dropped into the 50's, however this is an example of inspiration which can be drawn from anything which is where the name of this blog comes from. When i think about this cold i catch myself thinking of Russians in Siberia bundled up and walking through the harsh cold just as prisoners did when Siberia was used as a place of exile. Like this i am exiled in this 10x10 room with a few blankets typing a blog on a small school laptop which was lent to me due to going to a tech school instead of high-school. I currently have a website which i am making in the background along with notepad ++, I skipped school today to complete (it is due today) i am in a way exiled to this room because of this as i have informed my mother that i am finished with it and turned it in via email, so if i was to huddle in one of the rooms with a heater she would see that. So like a christian in the days of persecution i am hiding away in order to conduct my work which i procrastinated on and am still procrastinating in order to tend to this newly made blog. This may gain literally no popularity but that is fine by me as this is something that appeases my want to write and write and write, it is a calming past time that allows me to barely have to think and just express my emotions as one should be able to do.

I have been watching all these TEDx videos and can't shake the feeling that about 90% of the people are pretentious and don't realize how underprivileged most people are. Often times they talk about traveling in order to learn more about yourself and learn about other countries, however this is bullshit as the only true way to learn more about yourself is to do something like this. Express yourself unfiltered and don't allow someone to filter you. If you express yourself and find you like what you are talking about then you should pursue it. I can spend hours talking about the entire history of a particular medium of art and can talk about how inspirational something is and what people see in it even if it is something i hate. There are points when i don't understand peoples like for things and i ask them for a logical explanation as to why they enjoy these things. For instance the song that just came on on my phone is the Dance in the Vampire Bund opening. I love Japanese anime and manga which many people don't understand especially in america where most people here are so self centered that they don't realize how uncultured we are and how much culture other nations have to offer, this is mainly due to the fact that we are one of the most powerful nations in the world which gives us a conceited attitude and feelings of superiority. Thus i can mention people who are famous world wide and people not have a clue who i am talking about because they aren't from america. I also just realized that my previous statement about bullshit and such is partially wrong, but not entirely. I feel it is bullshit them talking about travelling to 52 countries and such and learning these things because one can gain that here in america through the internet, just as people from other countries gain knowledge through the internet about us. What people in america lack is sufficient acceptance of other nations which i think is part of what they were saying in the video yet they worded it in such a way that it can easily be taken wrong until further thought. So i restate that the way you learn about things especially yourself is to consult your feelings as you may find further meaning in things like this and grow to understand things a bit more, one is not required to leave there country and shell out money for "enlightenment" unless that is what they truly want, you can gain all the knowledge you need from reading and especially the internet which provides a wonderful source of information especially about other countries and people. So lets work together in order to spread knowledge of other countries while staying safe and sound in our houses and keep our budget lives in tact. The more i type this the more i get the feeling that people will read this and be confused but the truth is this is how my brain works it goes in circles and circles as i further debate something in my mind, this i can take inspiration from anything if i look far enough. This post is becoming exceedingly long however so i think i will wrap it up by saying that you should never be content with something until you have explored it to its fullest content, thus if you are like me life will never be complete as you will always find more in the wealth of knowledge that is life. I leave you off with the knowledge that you will see me here at least once a week and you should probably prepare your butt-holes.
